Enable Australia Post retail rates in your store

The most important step you need to take to enable Australia Post rates in your store is to setup shipping zones with 'calculated' shipping rates provided by our app.

Enable or disable Australia Post rates in a shipping zone

If you haven't already created a shipping zone you'll need to do that first.

  1. Navigate to your Shopify admin. For example: storename.myshopify.com

  2. Click Settings, then Shipping and delivery.

  3. Click Manage rates on one of your shipping profiles.


  4. On this screen you will see a list of any shipping zones, and their shipping rates.
    If you don't have a shipping zone setup, click Create shipping zone.


  5. Give the zone a name and select the countries or regions you'd like to include, then click Done.


  6. If you already have shipping zones setup with Shopify rates created before you installed Addition, it's a good idea to delete those default rates now.

  7. Next you need to add a 'calculated' rate, selecting 'Australia Post Shipping' as the carrier.
    Click Add rate on a zone you wish to add Australia Post rates to.


  8. In the 'Add rate' window select 'Use carrier or app to calculate rates', then choose 'Australia Post Shipping (Rates provided by app)' from the dropdown menu. If Australia Post Shipping is greyed out (so you can't select it), this means you've already added the app to this zone. You only need to add the app once to each zone.

  9. Check the post services you would like to apply ('Express Post' and/or 'Parcel Post'). We suggest you check 'Automatically show new shipping services to customers when they become available'.

  10. Click Done. Make sure to save your changes, click the Save button to the right.


Congratulations! You have now enabled Addition to provide rates for you. Now when your customers checkout they will see real-time Australia Post retail rates.

If you have a business account with Australia Post, such as a MyPost Business, eParcel or StarTrack account, you can connect your accounts to access your discounted/agreed rates. Find out more about that here.

The last key step to make sure Australia Post rates work for you is to Check all of your products have weights. Australia Post rates are weight-based rates so products need to have a weight assigned to them.

enable_shipping_6.png In the above example there are two zones; 'Domestic' and 'Rest of World'. Both zones have carrier calculated rates enabled and we see that the carrier providing the rates is 'Australia Post Shipping'.

How to remove Australia Post rates

  1. To remove the 'Australia Post Shipping' carrier from a zone simply click the 3 dots to the right of the carrier and choose Delete rate.


Hint: if you can't find your Australia Post rates they could be listed under a 'Carrier and app rates' tab. This happens when you have both default Shopify rates and carrier-calculated rates.
